What a Device CAL covers
Windows Server Standard and Datacenter are licensed in two parts: the server licence and a CAL for every user or device that connects to it. The CAL is what makes file shares, printing, Active Directory sign-in and similar server services legal to use from client machines.
A Device CAL is assigned to a machine, not a person. Any number of staff can use that machine to reach the server. Windows Server Essentials is the exception and does not use CALs.
Device CALs do not cover Remote Desktop sessions. For those you also need Windows Server 2019 RDS Device CALs on top.

Count whichever number is lower. If you have 30 staff sharing 12 PCs, 12 Device CALs cost less than 30 User CALs. The opposite case is covered by our Windows Server 2019 User CAL page.
Is a 2019 CAL the right version?
A CAL must be the same version as the server or newer. A 2019 Device CAL covers access to Windows Server 2019, 2016 and older servers. It does not cover Windows Server 2022 or 2025.
Windows Server 2019 is already in extended support, which ends on 9 January 2029, according to Microsoft’s Windows Server 2019 lifecycle page. If you are building a new server, buy Windows Server 2022 Device CALs or Windows Server 2025 Device CALs: newer CALs also cover older servers, so they stay useful after you upgrade.

How to use your CALs
- Choose the pack size that matches the number of devices that connect to the server.
- Save the licence email with your company’s software asset records.
- Note which devices each CAL is assigned to, for example in an inventory sheet.
- Reassign a CAL only when a device is retired or replaced.

Do I need CALs for Windows Server 2019?
Yes, for Standard and Datacenter. Every user or device that accesses the server needs a CAL. Windows Server Essentials is licensed differently and does not need CALs.
Can I use 2019 Device CALs with Windows Server 2022?
No. CALs must match or be newer than the server version. 2019 CALs cover Server 2019 and earlier, but not 2022 or 2025.
Do I enter the CAL key on the server?
No. Windows Server does not track or ask for standard CAL keys. Keep the licence email as proof in case of an audit.
Does a Device CAL include Remote Desktop access?
No. Remote Desktop Services needs RDS CALs in addition to the Windows Server CAL.
How long is Windows Server 2019 supported?
Microsoft provides extended security updates until 9 January 2029. Mainstream support has already ended.
Can I move a Device CAL to a new computer?
Yes, when the old device is retired or permanently replaced. Short-term swaps, such as a loan laptop, are covered by the usual Microsoft licence terms for temporary reassignment.

Refunds
Once a purchased software package has been activated or an activation has been attempted through an online activation site, the package becomes none refundable But in serious matters, we can refund on Wincdkey wallet. Exchanges
Microsoft Softwares will exchange software purchases for up to 30 days after order completion but only if the software has not been downloaded by the customer, you can also return your purchased software within 30 days if the software remains none downloaded for a full refund.
Redemption or Activation:
After purchasing keys, you will get a voucher code which is needed to redeem. this voucher code have a lifetime validity but once redeem it then you need to activate your windows or office within 7 working days.
Refund process
Refunds will be credited back to the credit/debit card that customers used to place their order, refunds are processed from our platform immediately the time taken to credit to the customer depends entirely on the customers card issuer and/or bank account.
