What’s new in Autodesk Revit 2027

The highlights below are taken from Autodesk’s What’s New in Revit 2027 announcement and the 2027.1 and 2027.2 update notes.

Rule-based numbering

Elements renumber automatically as the model changes, which removes a lot of manual renumbering of rooms, sheets and similar items.

Modelling improvements

Walls can now host on other walls, stair tread numbering is set through type properties, and Design Options views behave more consistently.

Accelerated Graphics

The Accelerated Graphics mode that was a tech preview in 2026 is now production-ready for smoother navigation of large models. The 2027.2 update adds ambient shadows in more views and an optional Vulkan engine.

Autodesk Assistant (tech preview)

A natural-language assistant can query and edit the model, manage views, schedules, rooms and parameters, and give in-product guidance. Later updates log its actions and mark AI changes in the Undo list.

Structural and MEP upgrades

The analytical model updates from physical changes while keeping loads and boundary conditions, and rebar adapts to host changes. MEP gains a guided energy model setup, system-level HVAC logic and, from 2027.1, an MEP Sizing Calculator.

Documentation tools

The 2027.2 update brings Tag by Example and snapping for view titles on sheets, both small changes that speed up drawing production.

.NET 10 platform

Revit 2027 runs on .NET 10, and the installer adds the runtime automatically. Add-ins must be built for .NET 10, so check your plug-ins before upgrading.

Revit 2027 vs Revit 2026

Revit 2027 is the better buy for new seats, but it drops Windows 10 and needs .NET 10 add-ins. If your office still runs Windows 10 or relies on add-ins not yet updated, Revit 2026 is the safer match.

Is Revit 2027 a subscription or a perpetual licence?

It is a subscription. This listing is a 1-year subscription licence for one device, not a perpetual licence. Autodesk sells Revit only on subscription for new customers. You can use it for 12 months, then renew to keep it licensed.

Does Revit 2027 run on Windows 10?

No. Autodesk lists 64-bit Windows 11 as the only supported operating system for Revit 2027 on its system requirements page. Windows 10 was still supported for Revit 2026. If your PC is on Windows 10, upgrade to Windows 11 first or choose Revit 2026.

Can I run Revit 2027 on a Mac?

Not natively. Revit is a Windows application. Autodesk’s recommended setup for Apple computers is Windows 11 inside Parallels Desktop on macOS 13.7 or newer, with 32 GB host memory and 16 GB for the virtual machine. Accelerated Graphics is not supported in Parallels.

Can I use Revit 2027 on another computer?

Only one at a time. The licence covers one device. To switch PCs, sign out of Revit and uninstall it on the old machine, then install and sign in on the new one. Our support team can help if the new install will not activate.

What happens after the 1-year licence ends?

Revit 2027 stops being licensed on your device once the 12 months are up. Your RVT project files remain on your drive, but you need an active Revit licence to edit them. Renew or buy a new year before expiry to avoid interruption.

Will my Revit 2026 add-ins work in Revit 2027?

Not automatically. Revit 2027 moves to .NET 10, and add-ins must be rebuilt for .NET 10 and the 2027 API. Many vendors release 2027 versions, but check each one before you upgrade a production machine.

Can Revit 2026 open a Revit 2027 file?

No. Revit files are not backward compatible, so a model saved in Revit 2027 cannot be opened in 2026 or earlier. Agree a Revit version with everyone on the project before upgrading shared models.

Is Revit 2027 better than AutoCAD for building design?
