What is Autodesk Advance Steel 2024?
Autodesk Advance Steel 2024 is a Windows steel detailing program on the AutoCAD platform that lets you model a steel structure in 3D and then extract fabrication drawings, material lists and machine files from it. It is aimed at fabricators, detailers and structural engineers working on buildings, plant and industrial frames.
Its practical selling point today is compatibility. It is the last Advance Steel generation in this batch that lists .NET Framework 4.8 rather than the newer .NET runtime, which matters if your firm relies on older add-ins.
What 2024 brings
The changes below are taken from the Advance Steel 2024 release notes. It was a modest release focused on content and the database engine.
SQLLocalDB 2019 database engine
Content databases moved from SQLLocalDB 2014 to 2019. When Management Tools opens an older 2014 database, it keeps a copy with a “_backup” suffix so nothing is lost.
German drawing style updates
The German General Arrangement drawing styles now show both cold-rolled and hot-rolled purlins in details. The German model template also shows hidden lines in 3D wireframe while orbiting.
More precise Advance Copy
Polar array copying with Advance Copy now calculates angles more precisely. That helps on circular structures such as tanks and stair cores.
BOM and weld clean-up
The Main Part Total Amount token in BOM lists has a clearer description. Preferred weld preparation values now show correctly in the weld properties window.

No. It is a 1-year subscription for 1 device, not a perpetual licence. Autodesk no longer sells permanent licences for new customers, so the software works for the 12-month term and then needs renewing. During that year you can install any 2024 updates Autodesk makes available.
Which Windows versions does Advance Steel 2024 support?
Autodesk lists 64-bit Windows 10 and 64-bit Windows 11 for Advance Steel 2024. 32-bit Windows is not supported, and ARM processors are not supported either. Autodesk also recommends installing all pending Windows Updates before you run the Advance Steel installer, which avoids many common setup errors.
Can I run Advance Steel 2024 on a MacBook?
Not as a Mac app. Advance Steel 2024 is Windows-only and there is no macOS edition. A Windows virtual machine on an Intel Mac can work, but Autodesk does not support ARM processors, so Apple silicon Macs running Windows for ARM are not a supported option for this release.
Can I use the licence on two computers?
No, only one at a time. This product licenses 1 device. If you replace your PC, sign out of Advance Steel on the old machine and sign in on the new one with the same Autodesk Account. For extra workstations, ask us for a multi-seat quote.
What happens after 12 months?
Your Advance Steel 2024 subscription ends and the software is no longer licensed for use. Drawings and models you created remain on your computer. Renew before the end date to carry on without interruption, or use renewal time to move up to a later release.
How do I receive Advance Steel 2024?

What hardware does Advance Steel 2024 need?
A 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC with a 2.5 GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM, a 2 GB DirectX 11 graphics card, a 1920 x 1080 display, 10 GB of disk space plus cache and .NET Framework 4.8. Autodesk recommends 32 GB of RAM and an 8 GB DirectX 12 card.
Can Advance Steel 2024 open models from newer versions?
Generally no. Advance Steel models saved in a newer release are not designed to open in an older one, so a 2024 seat may not read a 2026 model from a partner. Agree the release year with everyone on the project before you start, and keep all team members on the same version.
