What is the difference between Office 365 and Microsoft 365?

They are the same product family under two names. Microsoft rebranded its
Office 365 consumer and business subscriptions to Microsoft 365 in 2020, so
“Office 365” now survives mainly as a search term and in older business plan

Households of five or six people should compare the per-person cost against a
single-user option before ordering: a five-device account split five ways is
usually the cheaper route, while a solo user rarely needs more than one seat.

Is an Office 365 account a subscription or a one-time purchase?

It is a subscription. Access runs for the term stated on the product page —
typically one year — and stops when the term ends unless it is renewed. Any
product wording elsewhere on the web that implies permanent access to a
Microsoft 365 account should be treated with caution, whoever is selling it.

This is the single biggest source of buyer disappointment in this category,

a single year, a subscription account is. The break-even depends on whether you

Can I use one Office 365 account on more than one device?

Yes, on the multi-device options. The five-device Pro Plus account covers
Windows, Mac and Android installs under a single sign-in. Single-account options
such as Microsoft 365 Personal are intended for one user, though that user can
usually install on their own devices.

Does Office 365 include Copilot?

On eligible plans, yes. Microsoft has bundled Copilot into its consumer
Microsoft 365 plans, with AI use running on a monthly credit allowance and
limited to the subscription owner rather than everyone sharing the plan. Check
the individual product page for what that specific account includes.

Will my files be deleted if the subscription expires?

Your documents are not deleted, but access changes. Office apps drop into a
read-only, reduced-functionality mode, and OneDrive storage above the free tier
becomes restricted. Move important files to local storage before a term ends if
you do not plan to renew.

Can I use Office 365 on a Mac?

Yes. Microsoft 365 subscriptions cover macOS as well as Windows, and the
account-based sign-in works the same way on both. Perpetual editions are more

What happens if I already have a perpetual Office installed?

Remove it first. Running a perpetual install and a subscription install side
