AutoCAD 2027 for Mac is Autodesk’s macOS edition of AutoCAD, the DWG-based CAD program used for 2D drawings, documentation and 3D modelling. It uses the familiar AutoCAD command line and drawing engine but wraps them in a Mac interface with a native menu bar, palettes, trackpad gestures and Metal graphics.

Files are standard DWG, so a drawing saved on a Mac opens in Windows AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT and most DWG viewers without conversion. That matters when you share work with consultants who are not on macOS.

Geometry Cleanup

The GEOMETRYCLEANUPOPEN palette scans selected objects for gaps, overshoots, undershoots and misaligned angles. Each error gets a marker with fix options you can preview before applying, or you can mark it “Keep as designed”.

Smart Blocks: Detect and Convert

BDETECT uses Autodesk AI to find groups of similar objects and offer them for block conversion. Autodesk says it works best on architectural symbols such as door swings, sanitaryware and generic lighting symbols.

Autodesk Assistant (tech preview)

ASSISTANTOPEN opens an AI-guided help palette that pulls answers from several sources and can start a support case. Autodesk labels it a tech preview and warns results may not always be accurate.

Shortcut menu customisation

Through the CUI dialog you can now add commands to the command, default right-click and grips shortcut menus. Handy if you want QSAVE or object snaps one click away.

Palettes migrate by default

When you move up from an earlier release, your palettes come across automatically instead of needing a manual migration.

Metal only, faster layouts

OpenGL support is gone, so Metal is now the only graphics engine. Autodesk also reports quicker layout tab switching, better occluded edge handling in FASTSHADEDMODE, and a separate crosshair colour for paper space.
