Windows 10 Home System Requirements

Before you begin, confirm your PC meets Microsoft’s minimum requirements for Windows 10 Home:

  • Processor: 1 GHz or faster (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • RAM: 1 GB (32-bit) / 2 GB (64-bit)
  • Storage: 16 GB (32-bit) / 32 GB (64-bit) free disk space
  • Graphics: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
  • Display: 800 × 600 resolution or higher
  • Internet connection: Required for activation and updates

Most PCs manufactured after 2012 exceed these requirements comfortably. If your hardware already runs Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or an earlier Windows 10 build, it will run Windows 10 Home.

Option 1 — Clean Installation of Windows 10 Home

Use this method if you are installing on a new PC, a PC without an operating system, or if you want a completely fresh start by wiping the existing OS.

Step 1: Download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool

Download the official Media Creation Tool directly from Microsoft:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Step 2: Create Bootable Installation Media

  1. Run the downloaded MediaCreationTool.exe file.
  2. Accept the licence terms.
  3. Select “Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC” and click Next.
  4. Choose your preferred Language, Edition (Windows 10 — includes both Home and Pro), and Architecture (64-bit recommended for most users; select 32-bit only if your processor or RAM requires it).
  5. Select USB flash drive (minimum 8 GB, all data will be erased) or ISO file if you prefer to burn a DVD.
  6. The tool will download and create your bootable media automatically. This typically takes 15–30 minutes depending on your internet speed.

Step 3: Boot from Your Installation Media

  1. Insert the USB drive (or DVD) into the target PC.
  2. Restart the PC and enter the BIOS / UEFI boot menu — usually by pressing F2, F12, Del, or Esc during startup (the key varies by manufacturer).
  3. Set the USB drive or DVD as the first boot device and save the settings.
  4. The PC will restart and load the Windows Setup wizard.

Step 4: Install Windows 10 Home

  1. Select your Language, Time and currency format, and Keyboard or input method, then click Next.
  2. Click Install now.
  3. When prompted for a product key, enter the Windows 10 Home licence key you received from Wincdkey, then click Next. (You may also click “I don’t have a product key” to enter the key after installation.)
  4. Select Windows 10 Home from the edition list and click Next.
  5. Accept the licence terms and click Next.
  6. Choose Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).
  7. Select the drive/partition where you want Windows installed. For a clean install, delete all existing partitions and create a new one from the unallocated space.
  8. Click Next. Windows will install automatically and restart several times — this typically takes 15–25 minutes.
  9. Complete the out-of-box setup (OOBE): choose your region, keyboard layout, network, and account preferences.

Option 2 — In-Place Upgrade (Keep Files & Apps)

Use this method if you are upgrading from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 and want to keep your files, applications, and settings.

  1. Download the Media Creation Tool from the link above and run it.
  2. Select “Upgrade this PC now” and click Next.
  3. The tool will download Windows 10 and launch the upgrade wizard automatically.
  4. Choose “Keep personal files and apps” when prompted.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions. Your PC will restart several times during the process.
  6. After the upgrade completes, activate Windows 10 Home using your product key (see Option 3 below).

Option 3 — Activate Windows 10 Home (Key Entry Only)

Use this method if Windows 10 Home is already installed and you simply need to enter or change your product key to activate it.

  1. Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Update & Security > Activation.
  3. Click Change product key.
  4. Enter your 25-character Windows 10 Home product key exactly as provided and click Next.
  5. Click Activate. Windows will connect to Microsoft’s activation servers and verify your key.
  6. Once activated, the Activation page will display: “Windows is activated with a digital licence.”

Alternative method via Run dialog:

  1. Press Windows key + R, type slui.exe 3, and press Enter.
  2. Enter your product key and click Next to activate.
