What is Autodesk Maya 2024 for Mac?
Autodesk Maya 2024 for Mac is the macOS edition of Maya 2024, Autodesk’s 3D animation, modelling, effects and rendering software. Autodesk states that Maya 2024 runs natively on both Intel and Apple silicon, so it no longer relies on Rosetta translation for the main application, Arnold, Bifrost or the devkit.
It also covers macOS 11 Big Sur, the oldest macOS on any of our Maya listings. If you own an M1 MacBook Air that has never been upgraded, this is often the simplest version to install.

Native Apple silicon support
Maya 2024 uses the arm64 instruction set on M-series Macs, and plug-ins can be built for Apple silicon or Intel.
Arnold for Maya 5.3.0 on Apple silicon
Arnold gained Apple silicon support in this release, with improved volume shading and a physical sky that separates sun and sky.

The Substance plug-in is included with Maya 2024.
Graph Editor curve sculpting
New brush-based tools for reshaping animation curves, useful on a trackpad as well as a mouse.
Mac-specific changes
Graphviz is no longer bundled on macOS and must be installed separately, and the default floating-point render target on macOS is now R16G16B16A16_Float.

Maya 2024 on Apple silicon vs Intel Macs
Apple silicon is the better platform for Maya 2024 because it runs natively there, but a few legacy features are missing on arm64. Intel Macs keep those features but are slower and limited to the same macOS 11 to 13 range.

Does Maya 2024 run natively on M1 and M2 Macs?
Yes. Autodesk states that Maya 2024 runs natively on both Intel and Apple silicon architectures. It was the first Maya release with native Apple silicon support, so it no longer depends on Rosetta for the main application.
Why does the Maya 2024 installer ask for Rosetta 2?
Because the installer itself is built for Intel. Autodesk notes you may be prompted to install Rosetta 2 once; after that you will not be asked again, and Maya itself still runs natively on Apple silicon.
Which macOS versions does Maya 2024 support?

Is Maya 2024 for Mac a one-off purchase?
No. It is a 1-year subscription for 1 Mac, not a perpetual licence. Autodesk only sells Maya on subscription, so after the year ends you renew to keep using it.
Can I move the licence to another Mac?
Yes, as long as it is active on 1 device at a time. Sign out of Maya on the old Mac and sign in with your Autodesk Account on the new one. Using both together is not allowed.
Will this work on a Windows PC?
No. This is the Mac edition of Maya 2024. A Windows PC needs the Windows edition. Your Maya scene files work on either platform, so you can share work across both.
What happens at the end of the 1-year term?
When the term ends, Maya 2024 is no longer licensed on your Mac. Your files stay on your drive, and you can renew or buy a new licence to keep using them in Maya.
How will I receive my licence?

What features are missing on Apple silicon in Maya 2024?
Three, according to Autodesk: CgFX shaders, SynColor colour management and the stereoCamera plug-in are not supported on Apple silicon. Autodesk recommends GLSL shaders and OpenColorIO instead on all architectures.
