Autodesk Advance Steel 2027 is the current-generation steel detailing release for structural fabricators, detailers and engineers who model connections, stairs and plates and then send drawings and NC files to the shop floor. This licence covers 1 device for 1 year on Windows 11, and your order details arrive by email straight after payment.

What is Autodesk Advance Steel 2027?

Autodesk Advance Steel 2027 is a Windows application for 3D structural steel modelling and detailing, built on the AutoCAD 2027 platform. You build the steel model with parametric beams, plates and connections, and the software produces general arrangement drawings, shop drawings, bills of materials and CNC data from that single model.

The 2027 release is a platform and maintenance year rather than a big feature drop. Most of the work went into the runtime underneath: a newer .NET, a newer database engine and a long list of content and stability fixes.

What’s new in Advance Steel 2027

Everything below comes from Autodesk’s What’s New in Advance Steel 2027 notes. We have left out minor bug fixes.

.NET 10 runtime

Advance Steel 2027 moves to .NET 10. If you run in-house add-ins or API tools, plan to recompile and test them before switching your team over.

SQL Server 2022 LocalDB by default

The content databases now use Microsoft SQL Server 2022 LocalDB. Update 2027.0.1 also lets you point Advance Steel and its Object Enabler at a newer LocalDB, such as 2025, through a settings file.

Updated libraries for security

SQLite 3.49.1, Entity Framework 6.5.1 and StepTools 20.1 are included. Autodesk says the StepTools update guards against malicious files causing crashes or buffer overflows.

Standards and section content corrections

Nut weights to EN 14399-3 and AISC 15 metric equal angles were added, and the Lindab C200x2.5 weight was corrected. Ayrshire cleat hole tolerances and Lindapter Holo-Bolt M10 and M12 lengths were also fixed.

Crash and formatting fixes

Fixes cover crashes in custom connections under the German locale, during drawing updates and in the Migration tool. BOM numbers using comma separators now format correctly.

Shared Views removed

Shared Views is no longer available, because Autodesk removed it from AutoCAD 2027. Autodesk recommends Forma Data Management instead for sharing drawings.

For large models and point clouds, Autodesk lists 32 GB RAM and a workstation-class card with 12 GB VRAM or more. The download installer also needs up to 12 GB of free space in the temp folder.

Always check Autodesk’s current requirements before buying, as Autodesk updates OS support during a release’s life.

How to activate Advance Steel 2027

Frequently asked questions

Is Advance Steel 2027 a subscription or a perpetual licence?

It is a subscription. Autodesk no longer sells new perpetual licences for Advance Steel, so this product gives you a 1-year term for 1 device. While the term is active you can use the 2027 release and install the updates Autodesk issues for it. When the year ends, the software stops being licensed unless you renew.

Does Advance Steel 2027 run on Windows 10?

No. Autodesk lists only 64-bit Windows 11 for Advance Steel 2027, which is a change from 2026 and earlier releases that also supported Windows 10. If any of your detailing workstations still run Windows 10, either upgrade them first or choose the Advance Steel 2026 licence, which supports both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Is there a Mac version of Advance Steel 2027?

No. Advance Steel 2027 is a Windows-only application and Autodesk does not publish a macOS build. Mac users generally run it through a Windows 11 virtual machine or Boot Camp on Intel Macs, but Autodesk does not list ARM processors as supported, so Apple silicon Macs are not a reliable option for production detailing work.

What happened to Shared Views in Advance Steel 2027?

Shared Views was removed. Autodesk took the feature out of AutoCAD 2027, and because Advance Steel runs on the AutoCAD platform it disappeared from Advance Steel 2027 too. Autodesk’s suggested replacement is storing and sharing drawing files through Autodesk Forma Data Management or Forma Data Management Essentials.

Can I use my Advance Steel 2027 licence on another computer?

Yes, but on one device at a time. The licence is for 1 device, so if you change PCs you sign out of Advance Steel on the old machine and sign in on the new one with the same Autodesk Account. Running it on two computers at once is not covered by this licence.

What happens after the 1-year term ends?

Advance Steel 2027 stops being licensed at the end of the year. Your DWG files and models stay on your drive and can be opened again once you renew. To keep working without a break, buy a renewal before the expiry date and sign in with the same Autodesk Account so your settings carry over.

How is Advance Steel 2027 delivered?

Will my Advance Steel add-ins work in 2027?

Possibly not without changes. Advance Steel 2027 runs on .NET 10, so add-ins built for older .NET versions may need recompiling and testing. Check with the add-in developer or your in-house programmer before upgrading every seat, and keep one 2026 seat available until your tools are confirmed working.
